<p>Salah satu hobi saya adalah berwisata kuliner. Kebetulan sekali saya sekarang tinggal di kota Bogor, salah satu kota yang memang terkenal dengan limpahan tempat wisata kuliner. Jalan Raya Pajajaran, Surya Kencana, dan daerah Air Mancur merupakan beberapa tempat kuliner terkenal di Bogor yang tak pernah sepi dikunjungi para pelanggannya. Banyak pilihan makanan yang sanggup memanjakan lidah para penggila kuliner, termasuk saya. Tujuan saya sekarang adalah sekitar Jalan Pajajaran. Bersama seorang teman, saya menyusuri jalan tersebut. Mata kami terpaku pada salah satu kedai yang memang belum pernah kami singgahi, yaitu Kedai Soto Banjar. Hmm, bagaimana ya rasanya?</p>
<p><span id="more-256"></span>Kami disambut dengan layanan ramah pelayan kedai tersebut sambil memberikan daftar menu kepada kami. Karena belum pernah mencoba makanan khas daerah Banjar, Kalimantan Selatan ini, kami memutuskan untuk memesan soto lengkap dengan nasi dan lontong. Untuk minumnya saya lebih suka teh sedangkan teman saya memesan es teh tarik. Sambil menunggu hidangan datang, kami mengambil camilan berupa kerupuk ikan dan keripik kentang pedas manis. Rasanya enak dan renyah.</p>
<p>Akhirnya hidangan kamipun datang. Pada saat pelayan menghidangkan Soto Banjar, secara spontan kami mencium aroma yang menguar dari soto tersebut dan berujar ‘Hmmm, baunya enak’. Kebiasaan saya sebelum makan hidangan sejenis bakso, soto, maupun sup adalah mencicipi kuahnya terlebih dahulu karena asumsi saya adalah kalau kuahnya saja sudah segar, rasanya bisa dipastikan juga enak. Isi Soto Banjar biasanya terdiri dari bihun, ayam suwir, perkedel atau kentang. Soto ini bisa dimakan dengan lontong atau ketupat, bisa juga dengan nasi, tergantung selera masing-masing. Harga yang ditawarkan untuk seporsi Soto Banjar plus nasi atau lontong adalah Rp 19.000; sedangkan jika memesan Soto Banjar tanpa nasi atau lontong harganya hanya Rp 15.000. Harganya minumannya juga bervariasi, mulai dari Rp 3.000 s.d. Rp 7.000.</p>
<p>Tertarik mencobanya??? Singgah saja di Soto Banjar, Jalan Pajajaran Bogor, samping Mie Yogya Pak Karso. Selamat menikmati. ^^</p>

<p><span id="more-252"></span>Terhenyak ketika mendengar hal itu membuatnya bahagia. Bukannya iri, tapi hanya takut kehilangan dia. Dia yang selama ini menemani hari-hariku. Ada suka dan ada pula duka yang mewarna. Ada kalanya hari-hari penuh airmata, namun tak jarang canda tawa berperan jua. Hari-hari yang penuh airmata itu rasanya sangat berat bagiku. Hati ini sakit, raga ini ikut menjerit, meminta kedamaian yang semula hadir dengan kehadirannya. Canda tawa yang ada membuat hidupku dan hidupnya semakin berwarna. Aah, indah rasanya.</p>
<p>Kini ketika dia telah memantapkan hatinya untuk suatu tujuan yang mulia, aku hanya bisa ikhlas. Ikhlas untuk kebahagiaannya. Aku mencintainya dan aku menyayangi dia. Tentunya kebahagiaannya akan merupakan kebahagiaanku juga. Pun, dia akan berlaku sama jikalau hal itu datang kepadaku. Aku sadar akan ada yang mencinta seperti dia, namun tempatnya di hati ini tetap sama, tak tergantikan, tetapi akan selalu kukenang.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Ada banyak hal lucu jika aku sedang mengawas ujian, entah itu ujian/kuis harian maupun ujian akhir semester.</p>
<p><span id="more-246"></span>Pertama, saat membagikan lembar soal, aku &#8216;suka&#8217; melihat wajah para siswa ketika melihat soal yang harus mereka jawab. Ada ekspresi <em>shocked</em> dengan soal tersebut, namun ada juga yang senang dengan jenis soalnya karena mungkin sudah memiliki persiapan yang matang. Selain itu, ada juga yang langsung pucat ketika baru menerima lembar soal sebelum sempat membacanya.</p>
<p>Hal lain yang menurutku lucu pada saat sedang mengawas ujian adalah ekspresi para siswa ketika sedang mengerjakannya. Ada yang menatap langit-langit dan ada yang berpikir sambil memutar-mutar matanya sambil memainkan bolpoinnya. Bahkan ada yang mengacak-acak rambutnya untuk sekedar mendapatkan &#8216;inspirasi&#8217; agar bisa digunakan untuk mengisi soal yang masih &#8216;menunggu&#8217; jawabnya. Tak jarang ada yang memejamkan mata sambil komat-komat baca &#8216;mantra&#8217;, siapa tahu ada &#8216;mantra&#8217; yang bisa dijadikan jawaban untuk lembar soal yang &#8216;menantang&#8217;.</p>
<p>Yang terlucu mungkin adalah teknik para siswa dalam usahanya untuk &#8216;mengintip&#8217; jawaban teman lainnya. Ada yang terang-terangan menanyakan kepada teman baik yang duduk di sebelah kanan kirinya atau yang duduk di bagian depannya. Mereka kadang juga dengan sengaja menggoyangkan kursi temannya agar sang teman menengoknya sehingga bisa ditanya apa jawaban untuk soal yang tidak dia pahami. Para siswa juga biasa memainkan &#8216;lirikan maut&#8217;nya untuk sekedar mengetahui apa jawaban yang tepat untuk soal yang tidak dia mengerti. Lebih uniknya, menurut pengakuan temanku, pada saat dia sedang mengawas, ada siswa yang dengan sengaja menjatuhkan tipe-X atau bolpoinnya untuk bisa membisikkan pertanyaan yang &#8216;mengganjal&#8217; hatinya. Ketika siswa tersebut tertangkap tangan temanku, dia langsung <em>sal-ting</em> dan pura-pura berpikir dengan mengallihkan pandangannya ke langit-langit atau pura-pura  mengerutkan keningnya sebagai tanda dia sedang berpikir keras. ^_^</p>
<p><em>Well</em>, mungkin itu sebabnya aku paling suka mengadakan kuis agar bisa mengamati &#8216;gaya&#8217; apa lagi yang bisa dieksplorasi anak-anak ketika sedang mengerjakan soal.<em> It is really unescapable experience.</em> ;0)</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>This meeting discussed about Movie. For the first, James asked the students their favorite movies, actors, actresses, and genres. Genre means types of movie students like. Next, he played Alphabetic game. The students were asked to mention the title of movies they knew beginning with A to Z. Then, James wrote the genres as follows: horror, romantic, comedy, thriller, action, documentary, animation, musical, adventure, sci-fi (science fiction), and spoof (serious movie turns to comedy).</p>
<p><span id="more-241"></span>The main activities were  making a script and performing it in front of the others. When we wanted to make a script, James explained, there were three steps we must do. First, we should describe the scene. Second, we should have the names of the characters. Finally, we should make the dialogue. He, then, took an example from <em>Titanic.</em></p>
<p><em>Scene   : The boat is sinking.</em></p>
<p><em>Actors  : Leonardo DiCaprio (Jack) and Kate Winslet (Rose)</em></p>
<p><em>Dialogue</em></p>
<p><em>Jack     : I love you, Rose.</em></p>
<p><em>Rose    : I love you, too, Jack.</em></p>
<p><em>Jack     : I will never let go.</em></p>
<p><em>Rose    : You are in my heart forever.</em></p>
<p><em>Jack lets go and sinks in the water.</em></p>
<p>The students, then, were divided into four groups. James gave them the genre to be played. Here they were:</p>
<p><em>Class   : 2C</em></p>

<li><em>Comedy           : Cinderella and the Smell Socks.</em></li>
<li><em>Romance         : The Triangle Love</em></li>
<li><em>Horror             : Bloody Mary</em></li>

<p>Watching their performance made us laugh. The students were really creative in making the script and dialogue. They could use their own imagination. Sometimes it was very strange. ^_^</p>

<p><span id="more-233"></span>Kalimat tersebut langsung tercetak di benakku ketika aku tanpa sengaja mengingat hal yang membuatku harus mengorbankan prinsip karena harus ‘menghormati’ aturan. Bukan, bukan seperti itu sebenarnya. Aku sangat menghormati aturan yang dibuat oleh ‘para pendahulu’ku. Aku bahkan bangga bisa menjadi salah satu pelaksananya. Pada awalnya begitulah yang ada dalam pikiranku ketika memasuki dunia baruku. Aku sungguh-sungguh tercengang ketika mengetahui ternyata ada peraturan seperti itu. Sungguh luar biasa dan sangat berat pasti bagi yang dikenainya. Namun, dalam prosesnya ternyata banyak yang sungguh di luar dugaan. Belas kasihan menjadi unsur yang membuat banyak yang harus ‘buta’ dengan peraturan yang sudah ada.</p>
<p>Ketika itu aku sudah berpegang teguh pada apa yang sudah menjadi prinsipku. Prinsip yang aku buat setelah aku mengetahui ‘ternyata seperti itu’. Berapa kalipun mereka bertanya dan meminta jawabku, aku tetap teguh pada pendirianku, teguh pada apa yang aku yakini. Temanku meremas tanganku di bawah meja, menguatkanku, namun untuk keputusan yang mana aku tidak tahu. Samakah prinsipnya denganku? Atau justru dia mengharap aku melakukan apa yang diinginkan oleh semua orang yang mungkin juga merupakan keinginannya? <em>I have no idea</em>.</p>
<p>Terkejut bukan kepalang ketika seorang yang lain mengatakan bahwa yang tertinggi juga memiliki kekuasaan untuk ‘mengabaikan’ keputusan yang dibuat oleh ‘kalangan rendah’. Sakit hatiku, pedih rasanya. Ingin sekali kumuntahkan air di mataku ini, tapi aku tegarkan hati untuk menghadapi semua. Karena aku tahu sekarang, saat ini, apapun keputusan yang aku buat atau kalau boleh kusebut ‘kalangan yang sama denganku’ tidak ada artinya di mata ‘kalangan penguasa’. <em>The power is in their hands; we should obey them only, that’s all, and case is closed</em>.</p>
<p>Sekarang jika menghadapi saat yang sama aku hanya bisa pasrah. Meskipun aku sering menjadi ‘algojo’, tetap saja bukan wewenangku untuk menentukan hal-hal khusus. Hal-hal yang membuatku ‘dipaksa’ mengorbankan prinsipku. Hal-hal yang justru pada akhirnya sangat menyiksaku karena hanya aku sendiri yang bertahan pada apa yang menjadi pedoman kami. Sendiri, saat itu, tanpa teman tanpa dukungan hanya tatapan tak berteman.</p>
<p>Di permukaan segalanya terasa indah. Namun jika kau masuk, kau akan menemukan bahwa tidak seperti itu adanya. Banyak yang dilanggar, banyak juga yang dikorbankan. Banyak yang tidak pada tempatnya namun dipaksakan harus begitu.</p>
<p>Begitulah yang terjadi. Hanya karena aku ‘kalangan’ biasa.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The theme for this third meeting with James was Music. For the first, he asked the students their favorite type of music. He listed the types on the whiteboard and added some more. There were pop, classical, rock, jazz, folk, punk rock, reggae, R&amp;B, ska, disco, heavy metal, hip hop, drum and bass, noise, country and Western trance, dangdut, and keroncong (both are Indonesian music types).</p>
<p><span id="more-227"></span>Then, James explained about rhyming. The example was <em>me, he, she, be, bee, free, tree, knee, three, see, Lee,</em> etc. From the rhyme, he asked the students to make a sentence. It was interesting although they felt difficult doing that. At least the students wanted to try. Another example of rhyming was <em>mat, hat, fat, cat, sat, that, flat, bat, rat, chat, and brat</em>.<br />
The main activity with this theme was making a rhyme. The students were divided into six groups. Each consisted of five persons. They were asked to create a lyric with the same rhyme at the end of each lyric. After that, they were to perform it in front of the others. In this case, the students were hip hop actresses. So they should sing their lyric using hip hop style.</p>
<p>Below is one of the lyrics the students made. It was from Flava Flavour group.</p>

We are glamor and you are horror &#8230;<br />
I look around &#8230;<br />
Sit on the ground &#8230;<br />

<p><em>‘Practice makes perfect.’ By doing different activities every week, we can make our English perfect, well at least.</em></p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>In this meeting, again, James brought something new and it was really interesting. The theme was Food and the game was Bogor Cooking Contest.</p>
<p><span id="more-222"></span>For the first time, he gave the students some simple games. The first game was Alphabet game. The rule was the students should mention the name of the food starting from the word A to Z. It was started from him. It seemed difficult but by thinking hard, my students could do that game. After that, James also played Ball game. He would throw a ball to a student and he/she who got the ball should mention the name of traditional foods of Indonesia, foods from Italy, or other Western foods based on James’ question.</p>
<p>After playing games, James explained some traditional foods of England. They were Steak and Kidney Pie, Fish and Chips, and Sunday roast. Next, he explained that England people seldom had breakfast. They usually did brunch, the combination of breakfast and lunch, and it was usually done at 9 to 10 a.m. The main menu could be sandwich. Finally, James gave the students a piece of paper. It was about the recipe and the ingredients. He, then, explained what did the recipe and the ingredients mean.</p>
<p>After all explanation had been given, James asked the students to make a group of four people. They should make a special dish, included the ingredients and the recipe. Then, each group should perform in Bogor EduCARE Cooking Contest. They were chefs and would give people special menu.</p>
<p>My students really enjoyed the class although they found some difficulties related to cooking vocabularies. It also made me think hard to find the meaning of certain words my students asked.</p>
<p><em>‘Experience is the best teacher.’ I do agree with that sentence. By having such great partner and wonderful students, I also learn and get something new every week.</em></p>

		<description><![CDATA[Hari Sabtu yang lalu (30 Januari 2010), aku mengalami beberapa kejadian yang menarik. Kejadian pertama adalah pembatalan keberangkatan kereta ekonomi jurusan Jakarta di jalur 7. Padahal ketika aku sedang menunggu kedatangan kereta tersebut, terdengar olehku beberapa pengumuman yang menyebutkan keberangkatan masing-masing kereta dengan tujuan Jakarta. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Hari Sabtu yang lalu (30 Januari 2010), aku mengalami beberapa kejadian yang menarik.</p>
<p><span id="more-212"></span>Kejadian pertama adalah pembatalan keberangkatan kereta ekonomi jurusan Jakarta di jalur 7. Padahal ketika aku sedang menunggu kedatangan kereta tersebut, terdengar olehku beberapa pengumuman yang menyebutkan keberangkatan masing-masing kereta dengan tujuan Jakarta. Untuk Pakuan Express, jam keberangkatannya adalah pukul 10.10, yang disusul oleh kereta ekonomi yaitu pukul 10.19. Keberangkatan yang terakhir adalah pukul 10.27 untuk kereta AC ekonomi tujuan Jakarta. Dengan pembatalan tadi, kontan seluruh penumpang yang telah menunggu di dalam gerbong marah. Bahkan, seorang bapak yang berdiri di sebelahku langsung mengumpat, ‘<em>Anjing</em>’ (maaf) begitu mendengar pengumuman tadi. Seluruh penumpang akhirnya pindah ke jalur 6 yang akan diberangkatkan terlebih dahulu.</p>
<p>Kejadian yang kedua terjadi di dalam gerbong kereta, dalam perjalanan menuju Depok Baru. Duduk di sebelahku, seorang ibu dengan tiga orang anaknya, satu laki-laki dan dua perempuan. Sepanjang perjalanan itu, sang anak sering membuat ulah sehingga menyebabkan sang ibu marah. Lebih parahnya, kata-kata yang dilontarkan sang ibu kepada ketiga anaknya sangatlah kasar dan sangat tidak wajar jika diucapkan kepada anak-anak yang seharusnya butuh pendidikan yang bagus. Meskipun aku tidak tahu artinya, namun aku paham bahasa yang ibu tersebut gunakan adalah bahasa Sunda yang kasar karena ada beberapa kata yang aku tangkap dan aku tahu apa artinya. Miris benar aku mendengarnya.</p>
<p>Kejadian selanjutnya masih dalam perjalanan ke Depok Baru  adalah pemandangan yang ‘lucu’ (bagiku). Karena kereta penuh, maka ada sepasang laki-laki dan wanita yang memilih untuk saling peluk di dalam gerbong kereta. Entah mereka suami istri atau hanya pacaran, namun aku geli melihatnya. Kok enggak malu ya diliatin banyak orang tingkah yang seperti itu. Eits tunggu, sepertinya hal itu sudah sangat wajar dilakukan di Indonesia. Banyak sekali yang enggak malu jalan berdua bergandengan tangan atau bahkan berpelukan di tempat umum. Ditambah tontonan yang justru mendukung terciptanya ‘harmonisasi’ sepasang muda mudi tersebut bukanlah hal baru lagi di kalangan masyarakat kita yang katanya beradab ini.</p>
<p>Begitulah kehidupan di kota besar ini. Sopan santun merupakan hal yang telah langka yang bisa dilakukan orang. Umpatan, caci maki, dan kata-kata kotor merupakan ‘santapan’ yang sekarang menjadi wajar dilakukan oleh hampir semua orang. Pun tidak ada kesadaran diri untuk menghormati hak orang lain yang ditunjukkan dengan tindakan asusila di tempat-tempat umum. Pendidikan juga tidak bisa berbuat banyak. Tidak ada jaminan pendidikan tinggi bisa membuat moralnya juga tinggi. Karena sejatinya manusialah yang harus mau dan sadar untuk selalu belajar dan belajar.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The second week, we got surprise. It was there were two new persons joined with us. They were James and Thomas. Why I said new? It was because I have never met James and Thomas before although I knew that James is my partner in teaching Speaking. Thomas was really new for us. He replaced Ryan because he got sick. Because there were four native speakers, the second class should be divided into 4 groups, consisted of 30 students for the first group, and 20 students for the rest. The first group was 2E, with Mom Linda and Lee. The second group was 20 students of 2F from No. 1 to 20. They were with James and me. The third group was 10 students of 2F from No. 21 to 30 and 10 students of 2G from No. 1 to 10. This group was with Ms. Yulie and Ryan. The last group was 20 students of 2G from No. 11 to 30. They were with Ms. Widie and Michelle.</p>
<p><span id="more-209"></span>Well, for this meeting I just accompanied James in teaching. Our class was 2C. For the first time, he introduced himself in front of the students. Then, he asked every student mention their name and something they like. It spent fifteen minutes to do this. After that, James explained that for this first meeting, we would play ‘Sunday Pub Quiz’. It is very popular in England, his birth place. In England, every Sunday usually young men there like to spend the time by going to pub and doing ‘Sunday Pub Quiz’. They like sitting around the table consist of 30 people or less. Each person has some questions to be asked to the others. The person who can answer almost all the questions given by his/her friends will be the winner. He/she will get the prize. Usually it is a bottle of beer. The questions are related to general knowledge, such as ‘<em>what is the capital city of England</em>?’</p>
<p>After explaining the game, James asked the students to make four groups. Because the number of 2C was 29 students, there would be three group consisted of 7 students and one group of 8 persons. Each group should make 15 questions. The questions should be written on a piece of paper. Besides, each group should prepare a piece of blank paper to write the answers from others’ questions. Each group was given 20 minutes to write the questions down and was forbidden to tell the answers to the others. It was a competition so each group should reach the highest score to be the winner. We, James and me, also joined in this game.</p>
<p>After all groups finished writing the questions, the game was begun. Each group should ask each question to the others out aloud so that the rest could hear the question well. Then, they should write the answers on the blank paper without telling the others the correct answer. It was done in turn. After all questions had been asked, it was time for discussing.</p>
<p>From this game, I got many unpredictable things. My students had so many unpredictable questions out of my mind. It made me difficult to write the correct answer although I did it with James. As a result, we got the smallest score than the others. Hikss…</p>
<p><em> So many unpredictable things I got made me realize that I was nothing. I should learn more and more. So teachers, let’s improve ourselves to be better and better.</em></p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>My school planned to invite some native speakers to help us in teaching English Speaking to our students. We could, finally, realize that plan. We got four native speakers, three men and one woman. One comes from England, one comes from Texas, one comes from Botswana, and the last comes from Scotland. They are Lee, James, Ryan, and Michelle. That will be a very interesting teaching and learning activities along this second trimester. I cannot wait for their involvement in our teaching and learning process.</p>
<p><span id="more-206"></span>In the first meeting, there were only three teachers, Lee, Michelle, and Ryan because James was sick. It meant that for the first hour, four classes should be divided into three classes only, consisted of 41 or 40 students. Two classes were taught by a native speaker and a lecturer from BEC, and the other would be taught by a native and two BEC lecturers. That was my class. The first meeting was just introduction.</p>
<p>My friend, Ms. Yulie, and I would be Ryan’s partners for this first meeting. Ryan introduced himself in front of the students. After he introduced himself, he asked the students to do the same. He asked them to mention their complete names, their nick names, their hobbies, and their favorite foods. He tried to memorize all although sometimes he found difficulty, especially if it was related to Sundanesse name. It was really interesting although it sounded boring. I thought it was because of the number of the students. It spent almost one hour a half and there were still some students who didn’t get the chance to introduce him/herself because the time was up.</p>
<p>In the second class, Ryan got wrong class. Actually, we should teach 2G, but because he directly attended 2F, we decided to change the class. Another friend of mine, Ms. Widie and her partner, Michelle, should teach 2F actually, but because of the mistake, they taught 2G. In this second class, Ryan did the same as before, introducing himself and then asking the students to do the same. Although the number of the students was only 30 people, we could still not finish the class. There were still 5 students who did not get the opportunity to introduce him/herself to Ryan.</p>
<p>This first meeting was really cool. My students really enjoyed the class although they just did introduction. The chance to speak with the native made them enthusiastic. They are really waiting for the next meetings. They are sure every week will be a good challenge for them to practice their English directly to those speakers who usually use English as their primary language.</p>
<p>Hmm, what will I get next week, yeah? Can’t wait for … J</p>
